Purpose - for joining complex, textured (rough), containing plasticizers (flexible PVC ) surfaces, possibly without preliminary preparation (abrasive and/or primer).

Recommendations for the use of VHB adhesive tapes

1. Temperature

Optimum temperature for application of adhesive tapes VHB ranges from+20°C to+40°C. It is not recommended to work with the tape at temperatures below +10°C. An exception is the special tape 4951, which can be applied at temperatures down to 0°C.

2. Abrasion.

The adhesion of the tape to metal can be improved by pre-abrading the surface with a fine-grained sandpaper followed by cleaning the surface with a solvent. Abrasive blasting is required when

there is corrosion on the metal surface.

3. Surface cleaning.

Both surfaces to be joined must be cleaned with a 50% aqueous solution of isopropyl alcohol 50:50. Remove solvent residues with a dry, clean cloth. It is not recommended to use hydrocarbon solvents for cleaning the surface.

4. Dependence of the adhesive bond strength on time.

At room temperature, the adhesive bond strength 20 minutes after application of the tape is approximately 50% of the limit values, after 24 hours - 90%, after 72 hours - 100%. Increasing the temperature decreases the time to reach maximum adhesion (1 hour at 65°C).

5. Pressure

The strength of the adhesive bond of the adhesive tape to the surface increases as the contact area of the adhesive increases

tape/surface. To speed up the establishment of this contact, it is necessary to firmly press the adhesive tape to the surface. After joining the parts to be glued, it is necessary to ensure a short-term strong pressure of the parts

to each other. Recommended contact pressure - 100 kPa.

Resistance to external influences.

Double-sided tape 3M ™ VHB ™ is significantly more resistant to external factors media: UV radiation, moisture, salts, solvents, temperature compared to tapes based on foamed polymers. This is due to the closed-cell structure of the base of double-sided tape (assembly tape) and the chemical inertness of the acrylic polymers of which it is composed. Experiments in an accelerated aging apparatus have shown that the strength of the adhesive bond of double-sided tape practically does not change after 7000 hours of cyclic exposure to heat, humidity and radiation.
