The ATtiny2313A is a cost effective 8-bit CMOS microcontroller based on the improved AVR RISC architecture. By executing most of the instructions in one sync cycle, the ATtiny2313A achieves a performance close to 1 million op. in sec. per MHz of clock speed, thereby allowing system designers to optimize the power-to-performance ratio.
The AVR core combines a rich instruction set with 32 general purpose working registers. All 32 registers are directly connected to the ALU (arithmetic logic unit), which allows you to specify two different registers in one instruction and execute this instruction in one machine cycle. Ultimately, the AVR architecture, at 10 times the performance of conventional CISC microcontrollers, is more efficient in program code.
The ATtiny2313A contains the following nodes: 2 KB of I/O Flash memory, 128 bytes of EEPROM, 128 bytes of static RAM, 18 universal I/O lines, 32 general-purpose working registers, a single-wire interface of the embedded debug system, two timer-counters with comparison modes, internal and external interrupts, USART serial programmable interface, universal serial interface with start condition detector, programmable watchdog timer with internal oscillator, and three configurable economy modes of operation. In IDLE mode, the CPU stops working, but static RAM, timer-counter, and system interrupts continue to work. In POWER-DOWN mode, the contents of the registers are saved and the generators are stopped, causing all built-in functions to be disabled until the next interrupt or hardware reset. In STANDBY mode, only the crystal oscillator remains on, and all other nodes are inactive. This allows quick resumption of active operation while keeping power consumption low.
The microcontroller is manufactured using Atmel's high-capacity non-volatile memory technology. The built-in Flash memory allows reprogramming of the program memory directly on the board via the SPI serial interface in in-circuit mode or using a conventional non-volatile memory programmer. By combining an 8-bit RISC CPU and In-System Self-Programmable Flash Memory in a single die, the ATtiny2313A microcontroller is a powerful tool for flexible and cost-effective embedded control solutions.
