Description:
The DS18B20 is a digital I/O thermometer that operates with an accuracy of ±0.5°C. Data is read through a 1-wire serial bus in a 9 to 12 bit complementary (user programmable) code with a low-order value of 0.5°C to 0.0625°C.
When used as a thermostat, the DS18B20 features user-programmable overtemperature (TH) and undertemperature (TL) setpoints in its internal non-volatile memory (EEPROM). The internal flag register will be set when the setpoint is crossed. This will be executed when the measured temperature is greater than TH or less than TL. If temperature control is not required, the two bytes of non-volatile memory (EEPROM) reserved for setpoints can be used for non-volatile storage of general purpose information.
Each DS18B20 has a unique and unchangeable 64-bit serial number that is used as the node address of the sensor. This allows multiple DS18B20s to coexist on a single 1-wire bus. The DS18B20 can be locally powered from 3.0V to 5.5V, or it can be configured to be powered via a 1-wire data line.
The DS18B20 is offered in TO-92, 150mil, 8-pin SOIC, and 1.98mm x 1.37mm Inverted BGA package. The BGA is designed for an accuracy of ±2.0°C. For applications that do not require ±0.5°C accuracy, the DS1822 is available with a reduced accuracy of ±2.5°C, a cheaper fully compatible IC (TO-92, SOIC only).
The DS18B20 is supported by the DS1701k Demo Kit.
