Victor Oleinik Application of powerful field-effect transistors from STMicroelectronics in modern electric drives and power systems
This article presents the characteristics of MOSFET (field effect) transistors from such a leading manufacturer as STMicroelectronics. First, I would like to acquaint readers with an overview of the new families of MOSFET transistors from STMicroelectronics, no doubt, if not the leading, then one of the firms with the most advanced developments and technologies in the field of power electronics. We obtain most of the mechanical energy in industry, everyday life and other areas by converting electrical energy using an electric drive. The quality of the electric drive largely determines both the possibility of implementing effective technologies and the energy consumption in various fields of activity. One of the most important issues that the developer must solve is the choice of the element base of the energy converter. Field effect transistors from STMicroelectronics are the optimal solution for these tasks.

Vitaly Shevchenko PWM controllers from International Rectifier
Over the past decade, we have seen an accelerated pace of development in electronic devices. Along with it, the requirements for the power supply device are also growing. Linear voltage regulators have low efficiency and cannot always meet the requirements of the device. Circuits with a synchronous rectifier are widespread today. The range of ICs produced by various manufacturers is very large. This article will discuss the features of using a synchronous switch in a synchronous rectifier and will consider several types of PWM controllers from International Rectifier.

Artem Kozlov FAN7710 - easy operation with a compact fluorescent lamp
Quite often, the profit from replacing incandescent lamps with fluorescent lamps is 30% higher than the money spent on it. The use of fluorescent lamps provides full natural light with maximum energy savings. Energy saving bulbs last 5 to 13 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs and are inconvenient and cost effective.

Lucio Di Jacio Power electronics in fluorescent lamps
Today, more and more often, the magnetic ballast load (choke) in fluorescent lamps is being replaced by electronic circuits to increase overall efficiency and increase productivity while reducing weight and volume. The main reason for replacing 50-, 60-Hz transformers or magnetic chokes is to save energy. Depending on the application, the return on investment for replacing the choke with an electronic equivalent can be from a year or more, since the electronic circuit is much more expensive. At the same time, electronic ballast provides higher performance and comfort with less weight and size, which is a great advantage in professional applications such as office and building lighting.

The development of power supplies and DC-DC converters is carried out both on the basis of specialized integrated circuits of the LM2596 class, and on the basis of exotic solutions using single-chip microcomputers. But the presence of two feedback inputs in the family of PWM controllers developed by f. Unitrode is still responsible for their popularity. These microcircuits are reproduced by a number of companies, including world famous ones.

Microcontrollers and control of switching power supplies. Implementation of a fully digital control loop
Power supplies, which are an integral part of almost any electronic system, have now formed a large-scale, full-fledged market - a market that is growing at a tremendous rate. Over the years, power supplies have consisted of complex combinations of analog and power semiconductor components, and their complexity has increased more recently as the share of switching power supplies has increased and replaced conventional linear designs. Thus, according to current estimates, sales of switching power supplies bring more than half of all revenue to power supply manufacturers worldwide.
A switching power supply has many advantages over a linear power supply, such as significantly higher efficiency, wider operating range, lower cost and smaller dimensions, especially in the case of high wattage systems. However, the many advantages of switching power supplies have now come to be regarded as standard requirements for the operation of power systems. Designers are increasingly focusing on the implementation of digital control loops, which would further increase efficiency and productivity, reduce the number of components, improve manufacturability and reliability, and expand functionality.

Bonnie C. Baker Portable Battery Test
Authentication of portable device batteries has become an imperative. There have been a number of reports of batteries overheating to the point of exploding in popular devices such as computers and cell phones. For example, in June 2004, a major cell phone supplier recalled 50,000 devices due to counterfeit batteries. This came after 18 reports of personal injury or property damage from battery explosions appeared. In October 2004, one of the main suppliers of cell phones recalled 1,000,000 devices due to the fact that they were equipped with counterfeit batteries. These are just two examples of overheating related unsafe non-certified batteries. The problem has received increased attention only because batteries explode and in some cases cause personal injury.

Nikolay Khatsyur Automate component placement and final assembly
Automation in electronics manufacturing began in 1961 with the invention of a radial and axial component fitter for PCB holes. Over the years, most products, especially consumer electronics, have switched to surface mounting, but the installation of components in holes has not yet disappeared from our lives and the equipment for their installation is being produced and actively used in production. The automation of the final assembly will be relevant for a long time.

Yuri Potapov Parasitic Parameter Extraction Technology for Interconnection Simulation
It is no secret that very often telecommunications equipment designers are faced with a situation when gigahertz analog or gigabit digital cards, developed using traditional design tools, including signal integrity analysis (SI) tools, demonstrated the specified characteristics during the simulation process, and after production turned out to be completely inoperable. ... The answer is simple: at frequencies above 1 GHz, the effects of mutual couplings between conductors are significantly manifested, which does not allow them to be ignored in the design process. Due to the high degree of integration, as well as high operating frequencies, simple RLC equivalent circuits can no longer meet the requirements for modeling complex interconnections, and electrodynamic modeling of the structure is required. If this is not taken into account, developers will continue to spend time and money on numerous design iterations and debugging of prototypes, which will lead to an increase in the final price of the product and, as a result, loss of market position.
The article describes a new computational technology that allows you to automate the process of analyzing parasitic connections in the topologies of high-frequency crystals and boards.
