Antistatic bags are designed for storing and transporting static-sensitive electronic devices. Antistatic bags are translucent in appearance and have a silvery color, made of metallized plastic film. These bags create a so-called Faraday cage around the component to be protected, which provides protection from the external field. A high level of protection against electrostatic fields is ensured by a metal spray between the outer layers of antistatic polyester and a rapid drainage of the charge: from 5 kV to zero - no more than 0.03 s. The film from which the bags are made has a multilayer structure. The first layer is made of antistatic PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic. The second, the so-called barrier layer, is made by sputtering aluminum. The third, heat-sealable layer, is made of PE (polyethylene) or PP (polypropylene). The film thickness for antistatic bags is 75 µm. They are usually closed with a fold and sealed with tape or thermally sealed. Packages closed by thermal sealing, in addition to protection against static electricity, will also protect against dust and moisture getting inside.
