Operation occurs when the threshold voltage values at the battery terminals are reached. Switch-on and switch-off voltage values are set using three buttons installed on the module board. The board also has a display that displays voltage, percentage or charge time.
The XY-L10A charging module is suitable for charging any batteries (lithium, lead-acid, starter) in the voltage range from 6V to 48V with a charging current of up to 10A (the maximum charging current is limited by the parameters of the contacts of the relay used).
The module can display voltage, battery percentage, battery charging time on the LCD. For operation, a current source with an output voltage sufficient to charge the battery is required. Implemented automatic charging control based on battery voltage level and charging time. The battery and charging process parameters can be set using the buttons and the LCD indicator. It is possible to input and output parameters through the serial port.
Principle of operation
The device is powered by a 6V .. 60V direct current source. The same current source is used as a power source to charge the battery, so the initial voltage of the battery should not be less than 5V, otherwise the voltage will not be enough for the stable operation of the XY-L10A module. Battery Settings
Before charging the battery, you need to set its minimum (volt-LI) and maximum (volt-HI) voltage. These values are used to calculate and display battery percentages.
The maximum voltage is also used to determine when to stop charging.
Charging time setting
In addition to controlling the upper voltage of the battery being charged, there is another way to stop the charging process: the expiration of the specified time. By default, this function is disabled, which is determined by the time parameter --:--h, in this state, charging continues indefinitely until the battery voltage reaches the specified maximum level.
In order for the charging time limit function to work, you must set a non-zero time in the range from a minimum of 1 minute (00:01h) to a maximum of 100 hours (99:59h).
Parameter setting procedure:
a) Press and hold the SET button for a few seconds to enter the parameter setting menu.
b) Switch between setting parameters by short pressing the SET button.
c) Once a parameter has been selected, it can be changed using the UP and DOWN buttons. Short press will change the parameter by one step, long press will change the parameter quickly. Repeat steps b) and c) to change all desired parameters.
d) After all parameters are set, press and hold the SET button for a few seconds to exit the parameter setting menu.
Description of the main interface:
Short presses of the SET button allow you to view the current parameter setting.
A short press on the UP button switches the display from displaying percent charge to charging time.
A short press on the DOWN button will turn on or off the relay, which gives the charge current to the battery. If the relay can be closed, the display will show OFF as a reminder.
A long press on the UP button will turn on the low power consumption mode (saving mode). When the economy mode is enabled, after 10 minutes of inactivity on the interface, the LCD indicator backlight will turn off. If economy mode is off, the backlight is always on.
A long press on the SET button will switch the module to parameter setting mode.
Upload parameters via serial port
A USB to TTL UART converter is required to connect the serial port. Its receive and transmit signals must be connected to the RX and TX pins of the XY-L10A module:
For the UART port, set parameters 115200, 8, 1 (baud rate 115200, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity).
Module control commands:
Team
Function
on
Close relay contacts (start battery charging)
off
Open relay contacts (interrupt battery charging)
start
Start uploading data
stop
Stop uploading data
read
Read parameter settings
dw10.0
Set lower battery voltage limit (volt-LI)
up20.0
Set upper battery voltage limit (volt-HI)
xx:yy
Set the number of hours (xx) and minutes (yy) of battery charge time (OP). After this time has elapsed, charging will stop.
Data upload command format: battery voltage + percent charged + charging time + state of charge. Example: 12.0V,020%,00:10,OP
Additional functions
Charging time recording: When entering the time display mode, the charging time will be shown by flashing. Automatic detection of incorrect parameter input: if volt-LI >= volt-HI, flashing ERR (error) will be displayed. Battery Connection Detection: If no battery is connected, NbE (Not Battery Error) test will be displayed.
Notes
The power source for charging the battery and powering the module must be a source of direct current (current, not voltage!) with a voltage in the range from 6V to 60V. Current source - this means that the output current should be automatically limited to the necessary limit necessary to successfully charge the battery.
The voltage of this current source must be several volts higher than the voltage of the battery being charged. For example, to charge a 12V car battery, the voltage of the current source must be at least 15V. Since the XY-L10A charge control module is powered by the same current source, there are voltage limits for it. The minimum limit of 6V and the maximum limit of 60V are determined by the parameters of the internal voltage regulator of the XY-L10A module.
For proper charging, connect the battery being charged with short and thick wires so that the XY-L10A module can properly control the battery voltage. Correctly select the charging current - usually it is selected 10 times less than the battery capacity. For example, to charge a battery with a capacity of 20 A / h (AH), a charge current of about 2..3A is selected. Keep in mind that too much current can cause the battery to overheat and even explode (this is especially true for Li-Po batteries).
The XY-L10A module works on the principle of voltage control. If, for example, you set the lower voltage limit to 12.0V and the upper limit to 14.5V, then when the voltage of a 12V battery drops below this limit, the relay will close and the battery will automatically charge from an external current source. Charging will continue until the battery voltage reaches 14.5V, after which the relay will open and the charge will automatically stop.
A 24V battery cannot be charged from 12V, because the voltage of the current source must be guaranteed to be higher than the voltage of the battery being charged. It is possible to charge a 12V battery from 48V, but only if the current at the 48V output is limited to the required charge current. Please note that the XY-L10A module does not have any current limit, it only implements control functions.
