Construction of wireless networks based on MaxStream modules

At the end of July 2006, the ZigBee Alliance, a fast-growing, non-profit consortium of the world's leading wireless communication companies for home, commercial and industrial applications, announced its next milestone. In mid-2006, the number of certified platforms that fully comply with the ZigBee standard (ZigBee Compliant Platform, ZCP), as a result of the ZCP certification of RadioPulse (South Korea) increased to 13. All ZigBee-compatible platforms include radio devices of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard and ZigBee -stack of all levels, up to the application level. These tools are available in the form of chips and modules. The number of ZigBee development kits exceeded 10,000. And from June 2005 to July 2006, the number of requests for ZigBee specifications exceeded 29,000 (by the beginning of November, more than 35,000 had been received). This suggests that ZigBee standards focused on energy-efficient wireless applications are becoming more popular.

Practical Ways to Measure Interference in Next Generation Phones

The use of wireless technologies such as WiFi or Bluetooth in conjunction with cellular functions within the cell phone case inevitably results in interference. This article describes practical ways to measure noise and reduce its impact on a system. Among other things, the mechanisms of mutual influence of circuits, acceptable interference levels, and two effective measurement methods, the noise subtraction method and the power overlap spectrum averaging method, are discussed.

Propagation loss in radio remote access control systems

In car radio remote access control systems (RKE - Remote Keyless Entry), the transmitter of the key fob sends a coded radio signal to the receiver of the car. RKE systems typically operate on the unlicensed ISM band, which includes the 315 and 433.92 MHz sub-bands. Due to the emerging need for remote engine start and the introduction of two-way RKEs with identification, developers are striving to increase the range of this low-power device. Replacing SAW transmitters with robust high frequency PLL transmitters allows the use of narrow bandwidth receivers. The advantage of RFIC receivers is their narrow bandwidth, which improves their sensitivity and thus increases the range. Once the transmitter power and receiver sensitivity have been selected, the main factor determining range is the propagation loss from transmitter to receiver. This article shows how radio signal reflections from the ground affect propagation loss, and gives a simplified approximation of the equation for calculating propagation loss. The graphs of the dependence of propagation losses on the distance to the parking place are presented. Recommendations are given for calculating losses taking into account the influence of multipath propagation and signal shading.

Control of climate systems with a Z-thermistor

In the late 1990s, semiconductor temperature converters (Z-thermistors) were developed, which not only respond to temperature changes in the range from –40 to +110°C, but also generate a control signal without additional electronic circuits [1–5]. The article offered to the readers shows the possibility of using these semiconductor devices in automatic temperature control and regulation systems, the so-called climate control systems.

Acquaintance with the architecture of the digital signal processor (DSP) TMS320F2812 from Texas Instruments. Introduction

This article is an introductory article in a series of publications prepared by the staff of the Digital Technologies Laboratory of the Department of Electronic Computing Equipment Design of the National Technical University of Ukraine "KPI". The main task that we set ourselves in the framework of a joint project with GRAND Electronic is to acquaint readers with modern DSPs from Texas Instruments and teach them the basics of software development in the Code Composer Studio environment. The first series of articles is devoted to the CSP C2000 family and consists of ten lessons, each of which will contain a theoretical part and practical examples.

Organization of assembly and assembly production in the market economy of Ukraine

In recent years, new electronic products have appeared more and more often. Along with the novelties, new electronic components come. Production requires more and more sophisticated machines and, at the same time, lower maintenance costs, and in general - lower costs for manufacturing a unit of product. All this motivates manufacturers to create new equipment. How to make the best choice with a year-long perspective among so many products offered on the market?

Integrated Power ICs from International Rectifier

Today telecommunications and networking applications are on the way to improving their functionality. Together with the increase in resource indicators, current consumption also increases. Many semiconductor manufacturers for power supplies are developing new, more efficient ICs and transistors. But as a result, these solutions turn out to be more cumbersome and ineffective compared to their discrete counterparts. International Rectifier has chosen for its development the development of both new and efficient semiconductor devices and integrated power supplies. This article invites the reader to familiarize themselves with the basic properties of the iPOWIR ™ and SupIRBuck family of integrated voltage converters.

"Taming" Simcom modules or three nuts for developers

With the arrival on the Ukrainian market of GSM/GPRS modules of the Chinese manufacturer "SIM Technology Group", many developers have appreciated these cheap, but equipped with a set of functions sufficient for most applications. They have confidently pushed their higher-class brethren out of alarm devices, monitoring and control systems. At the same time, there are some issues that require a correct approach when using the SIM300 series modules.

Based on the experience of communicating with many developers, as well as answering questions at the conference on our website and on the electronix.ru website, several major developer errors were highlighted that led to the unstable operation of modules or even to their damage. To warn those who are just going to work with Simcom modules, this material was prepared.

State-of-the-art general-purpose analog-to-digital integrated circuits National Semiconductor

Analog-to-digital microcircuits - integrated digital-to-analog (DAC) and analog-to-digital (ADC) converters - belong to the class of the most common and widely used components of modern electronic technology. National Semiconductor is one of the world's leading manufacturers of integrated circuits (ICs) for DACs and ADCs of various types, with more than one hundred models. Articles [1, 2] give an overview of the IC ADC National Semiconductor, released by the company before mid-2005. Recently, National Semiconductor's range of integrated DACs and ADCs has been significantly updated. At the same time, a family of IC DACs and ADCs for general use (maximum conversion frequency up to 1.5 MHz) with reduced power consumption, which differ from similar products from other companies by a combination of very high characteristics at a relatively low cost, seems to be very interesting for developers of various equipment.

Advanced CAD for RF and Microwave PCB Prototyping Reduces Design Cycle

The design process for RF and microwave PCBs is becoming increasingly complex as compatibility with the rest of the system is reaching a whole new level these days. It is not unusual for fundamentally different analog and digital circuits to coexist on a printed circuit board alongside conventional RF and microwave circuits. All this poses a number of serious tasks for the developer, including the choice of the methodology for the design stages. Quite often, at the stage of developing combined RF printed circuit boards, various computer-aided design tools are used. However, during the integration phase, this can be fraught with hidden problems, especially with regard to the topology of the printed circuit boards.

This article shows you how to use electromagnetic modeling techniques to prepare and model an RF PCB layout prior to production. A real example of using such a methodology in practice for detecting and eliminating unforeseen problems caused by the presence of parasitic components in the standard design of a satellite TV receiver is considered.
