Normal electrocorundum contains 93–96% Al2O3 and is smelted by reducing smelting from bauxite. Due to the high content of aluminum oxides and a small amount of impurities in corundum, its crystals are larger. It has a high viscosity, therefore it is used in the manufacture of abrasive tools for grinding viscous materials with high tensile strength, for abrasive processing with variable loads, as well as for heavy roughing work.
