This module is based on the MAX7219 chip, which is a compact LED driver. The driver is designed to control the display of eight seven-segment indicators using a microcontroller. The module is connected using the SPI bus. The advantage of using this driver is that there is no need to constantly update all data in its entirety. Any data can be addressed to update a part without rewriting the entire image.
There are holes on the board for installing a pin header. Up to 8 of these displays can be daisy-chained as needed.
