Overcoming any of the global problems of modern civilization, we inevitably face the need to resolve issues related to energy. The entire history of civilization is, in fact, the history of the development of energy. Our planet provides us with almost inexhaustible sources of renewable energy: wind, sun, tidal currents. The resources of wind energy alone are many times greater than all the reserves of fossil biogenic fuels accumulated over millions of years. We live at the bottom of an ocean of energy - as long as the Earth and its gaseous envelope, heated by the sun, exist, air masses will move. Therefore, in parallel with the preservation of traditional energy resources, it is necessary to search for new energy sources. It is known that only the replacement of industrial drives with frequency-controlled drives can significantly reduce power consumption and save a huge amount of energy. The foregoing refers to the use of VFD in the broadest sense of the word, whether it is a general industrial drive, electric transport, elevators, ventilation systems, etc.

The adoption in Europe of requirements for power factor correction (PFC) for electrical loads equal to or greater than 80 W is very important for environmental protection and its rational use. This requirement applies to many consumer goods, including large household electrical appliances. Many of the household appliances, such as air conditioners, refrigerators, washers and dryers, have a complex load due to the presence of an inverter for the electric drive. In general, complex impedance loads have a low power factor. Mandatory power factor correction of these devices allows for more efficient use of transmission lines and energy savings while reducing energy costs, as well as reducing the amount of carbon emissions from fuel combustion. Nowadays, around the world, many government regulators have authorized similar requirements for PFC in similar applications.
