The KY-008 laser module is afraid of static electricity. Even an impulse excess of the supply or control voltage leads to damage to the LED. When heated, the resistance of the LED decreases, the current consumption increases, as a result, heating is accelerated and the developing process leads to negative consequences. In most cases, it is not required to operate the KY-008 laser module at maximum power. The current consumption can be reduced by sequentially installing a 22-100 Ohm resistor in the power supply circuit.
Consumption of maximum current causes rapid overheating, operation at half consumption mode slows down the self-heating process, but it will still occur. The most correct way to ensure reliable operation is to use a stabilizer or current limiter to power the KY-008 laser module.
