Product description format_size zoom_out zoom_in

Wood's alloy is a heavy, low-melting alloy invented by Robert Williams Wood. Melting point 65.5°C, density 9720 kg/m3
This alloy is used for tinning conductive paths of printed circuit boards, in precision casting, in bending thin-walled pipes, as melted rods in the manufacture of hollow bodies by electroforming.

Structure:
Tin - 12.5%;
Lead - 25%;
Bismuth - 50%;
Cadmium - 12.5%

Quote from the PCB Technology Forum:

"Tinning boards with Wood's alloy turns into such a simple operation that even a child can cope with it. The technology is simple, it can be described in a nutshell. Pour water into the enamel dishes, add a pinch of citric acid, splash a couple of tablespoons of glycerin there. for tinning, we put the board (cleaned and degreased) in water, put the whole thing on a gas or electric stove, wait for the water to boil.Then place a piece of Wood's alloy melting at a temperature of about 70 -80 degrees on the surface of the board, and disperse it along the paths with a soft swab We wipe off the excess alloy from the board with the same swab. That's it. I just want to note that the half-layer layer should be as thin as possible, otherwise, during soldering, there will be too many low-melting metals in the solder that will affect the strength of the solder. "

HISTORICAL REFERENCE :

The invention of the alloy is often credited to the American physicist. ¦ ¦ Robert Williams Wood, especially since the rally using the alloy is mentioned in the biographical book about him by V. Seabrook, but the famous physicist was born only in 1868, 8 years after this invention.
