A shunt is a low-resistance, high-power resistor that is connected in parallel with the ammeter terminals in order to expand the measurement range.
The measured current I is divided between the measuring shunt (rsh, Ish) and the ammeter (ra, Ia) in inverse proportion to their resistances.
Shunt resistance rsh = ra ∙ Ia/(I-Ia).
To increase the measurement range by n times, the shunt must have a resistance rsh = (n-1)/rа
