Structurally, the heater is a spiral made of thin nichrome wire wound on a ceramic rod and placed in a ceramic tube-sheath. The front end of the tube is plugged either with a ceramic compound or with a plug also made of ceramic in the form of a fungus.

In a working element, the resistance between the heater terminals is 11-16 Ohms, the resistance between the thermocouple terminals is about 0.5 Ohms. When replacing the heater, pay attention to the polarity of the thermocouple connection.
Lead color coding: heating element wires are one-color (usually red), thermocouple wires are of different colors.
Attention!this heater cannot be installed in soldering irons for stations designed to work with a heater of the HAKKO-1321 type. This is due to the incompatibility of the temperature sensors.

The question often arises: how to distinguish a nichrome heater with a thermocouple from an elementPTC type with thermistor?
First of all, in appearance. The nichrome heater has a smooth ceramic sheath. The PTC-type heater has a characteristic longitudinal groove along the entire length of the rod, which is clearly visible even on the remnants of a destroyed element.
If the element is destroyed, then the presence of remnants of a nichrome coil clearly indicates the type of heater. PTC-type heaters do not have a coil wire inside.
You can also navigate by electrical parameters by measuring the resistance, but this must be done in advance while the soldering iron heater is in working order.
